Telluride Blues Day 2: Umphrey’s Mcgee

I get to tout some more Indiana again. These guys are based in Chicago now, but they’re originally from South Bend, so I used to see them in Bloomington back in college all the time. Umphrey’s held the torch for jamband/progressive rock at the festival. They are one of the tightest live bands out there, with meticulous attention to detail. They’re songs have intelligent complexity, yet are still catchy and easy to listen to. Often times with progressive bands the math outsmarts the message – not the case here. Hints of Zappa, Zeppelin, and Yes can be heard throughout their music.
