Formed in early 2005 and based out Brooklyn, NY, in Pencil melds influences of classic rock, jazz, country, and blues. The band’s primary leader, Jason Allen, has been playing rock and blues professionally since the late 1990’s. Having studied classical and jazz guitar at Indiana University School of Music, he blends technical prowess with a unique feel and approach that only comes with years of experience.
in Pencil has several musical influences including Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, and the Foo Fighters, to name just a few. in Pencil takes a unique approach to the changing music industry, in which albums are no longer relevant. Instead, the band capitalizes on the internet to release a wide catalog of recorded music on a per song basis, available directly on this site. The band’s original music catalog includes over 50 original songs, and equally as many covers.
