Telluride Blues Day 1: Jackie Greene

At this point I was completely drenched, probably had a few bruises on my head and shoulders from the pounding hail, and my shoes were like buckets of water. The only thing I had to shield myself was a tarp, so I probably looked like a giant brown monster.
When Jackie came on the weather let up a bit, thankfully. A San Francisco native, Jackie brings a broad array of musical styles to his playing. Clearly a master of the blues, Jackie is what I like to call an “old school” rocker. He brings in fancy guitar licks when necessary, but always favors the song as a whole. He’s got a great voice, and excellent songwriting ability. I was very impressed with his band as well – his lead guitar player had a simple, but elegant approach to introducing flavorful guitar solos with a ton of style.
They threw in a few covers here and there, the Grateful Dead covers were great – truly showing their old school American rock sensibility.
