Telluride Blues Day 2: Vieux Farke Toure

vieux-farke-toure-3
According to several die-hard blues festival goers that I spoke with, there are always several eclectic world music groups each year. Vieux Farke Toure are from Mali, and they definitely added a cool twist to the otherwise rock focused line up. The band showcases hints of traditional African music, blues rock, reggae, and afrobeat, all with seemless transition. The sound was impressive, and even my friend Berta said she couldn’t pinpoint what to dance to – they were throwing everything our way. But that kept it interesting – as we had a long day of music ahead of us. Whether you are interested in world music or not, Vieux’s guitar playing stands out with a different spin.
